Ukrainian women have long been admired for their grace, warmth, and strong family values. When I first began traveling and dating internationally in 2019, Ukraine was one of the most talked-about places among expats seeking meaningful relationships.

In this article, I’ll highlight five countries where Ukrainian communities have grown, and share some reflections from my experiences meeting these remarkable women during my travels.
5) Vietnam

During a three-month stay in Da Nang, I was surprised to meet several Ukrainian and Russian women at my local gym. Many had relocated to Vietnam seeking peace and stability away from the conflict back home.
Despite their different backgrounds, the women I met showed mutual respect and were focused on rebuilding their lives. Vietnam continues to be an unexpected but welcoming place for people from all over the world.

3) Hungary
Hungary, which borders Ukraine to the west, has become a common refuge for displaced Ukrainians. During a month-long stay in Budapest, I met several Ukrainian women — some working in service roles, others organizing donation drives or supporting family back home.
The woman who cut my hair, for instance, was a Ukrainian refugee who had recently arrived. In my experience, dating apps in Budapest also featured many Ukrainian profiles — often women rebuilding their lives in a new country while staying connected to their culture and community.

2) Germany
Germany currently hosts the largest number of Ukrainian refugees in Europe, according to 2024 data from Statista. Cities like Berlin, Munich, and Hamburg have sizable Ukrainian communities where traditional culture blends with new beginnings.
Many Ukrainian women here are actively working, studying, or volunteering — creating vibrant networks that offer both support and connection. 1) Poland
Poland, sharing a long border with Ukraine, has become one of the largest host countries for Ukrainian refugees. In cities like Warsaw and Krakow, you’ll find a strong Ukrainian presence in daily life — from local cafés to community events.
During my time in Krakow, I met two Ukrainian women collecting donations at the airport to support humanitarian efforts. While our chat was brief, it reminded me how many displaced people are contributing in meaningful ways while navigating a new chapter abroad.

What Are Ukrainian Women Like?
Ukrainian women are often known for their resilience, elegance, and strong sense of family. Many embrace traditional values when it comes to relationships — often appreciating sincerity, respect, and thoughtful gestures like flowers or chivalry.
They may appear reserved at first, but that’s part of a culture that values composure. With time and mutual understanding, their warmth and depth become more apparent — a reflection of both their individual character and their country’s rich heritage.
