As someone who has visited over 15 countries, including Thailand and the Philippines, I can confidently say Colombian women are unmatched in their beauty, warmth, and values. Personally, I did not find Colombian women to be “easy” to get in the bedroom. I think a lot of it has to do with where you meet her and whether you have accurately filtered through prospects. Anecdotally, the women that I met would not want to quickly move away from their families. Most would consider it if they ended up in a long-term relationship that leads to marriage, but many would prefer for you to move to Colombia.
Style in Colombia: Colombian women tend to dress elegantly and expect men to look sharp as well for dates. Public displays of affection are not common. Colombians tend to take relationships slowly, and sex is not expected early on.
Machismo: Despite increasing modernization, machismo attitudes still persist, so Colombian women may tolerate overbearing or jealous behavior from their partners. Foreign men should understand these cultural norms to avoid offending their dates.

Online dating is a great way to meet Colombian women, especially if you’re visiting the country for a short time. The top sites are ColombianCupid and InternationalCupid. I had the most success finding quality women on these platforms.

ColombianCupid
ColombianCupid is part of the Cupid Media network, which operates over 30 niche dating sites. With over 1 million members, ColombianCupid is the largest Colombian dating site. You can search for women by location, age, appearance, and other filters. I found the women on ColombianCupid to be very responsive and serious about finding a relationship. Many spoke English well.
What’s great about ColombianCupid and LatinAmericanCupid is that these websites are both highly geared for men and women looking for international relationships. The women are looking for foreign men. There are not many Colombian men on the platforms.
LatinAmericanCupid
LatinAmericanCupid is similar but has women from all over Latin America. You can search specifically for Colombian women. I liked using both sites to maximize my options. The monthly subscription was affordable and worthwhile.
In fact, when I was in Colombia, I signed up and paid for both ColombianCupid and LatinAmericanCupid to expand my pool of dating prospects. Generally speaking, I found the women on ColombianCupid were not on LatinAmericanCupid and vice versa.
Tinder and Bumble
I don’t recommend using Tinder or Bumble in Colombia. I used both platforms for the first month but never met a woman from there. While you can meet local women, there are serious safety risks. Scammers, catfishers, and druggings target tourists on these apps. I had one bad experience being scammed out of $50 on Bumble. Stick to the reputable Colombian dating sites for better results.
Facebook and Instagram For Dating In Colombia
I met my Colombian girlfriend on Facebook and we maintained a monogamous relationship for four months. She was so kind and one of the most beautiful women I have ever dated. The most important qualities I look for are a long-history of photos, smiling pictures, and education/work history.

- Quality Colombian women are can be more conservative, so avoid being too forward or aggressive when approaching them. Start with small talk and be polite.
- Good places to meet Colombian women include cafes, parks, shopping malls, language exchanges, and dance lessons. Approach respectfully and strike up a friendly conversation. Some of the best women that I met were working in clothing stores at Centro Comercial SantaFe in Medellin.
- Make sure to brush up on your Spanish skills. Even if she knows some English, making an effort in Spanish shows care and interest.
- Compliment her in a polite way, on her style or a book she’s reading for example. Don’t comment on physical appearance.
- Gauge her interest and comfort level. If she seems engaged and welcoming, you can ask for her number or a date. If not, politely end the conversation. You don’t want to be a public nuisance.
- Do not persistently pursue a woman who has declined your advances. Take no for an answer gracefully.
- Be aware of your surroundings and her body language. Make sure she feels safe and comfortable talking to you.
- Avoid approaching women at night or in isolated areas. Stick to public daytime places. Colombian women are always on guard because of the frequent crime and robberies that take place in Colombia.
With the right respectful approach, you can meet incredible Colombian women in person. But always be considerate of their space and comfort. Making a connection takes time.

One of the biggest requirements for a Colombian woman in dating a foreigner is that he speaks Spanish. If you cannot communicate in her native language, the relationship likely won’t get very far. In my experience, the Colombian women who were most interested in me were ones I met through language exchanges. Challenges Foreigners Face When Dating Colombian Women
Dating Colombian women as a foreigner comes with some unique challenges you need to be prepared for. Here are the two biggest obstacles you may encounter:
Language Barrier
The first major hurdle is the language barrier. While some Colombian women in the major cities may know basic English, the vast majority do not. You will need to know at least conversational Spanish to communicate effectively and build a meaningful connection.
When I first arrived I thought I would be a quick study in Spanish because of the numerous Spanish classes I took in high school and college. However, I was shocked at how far away I was from conversational Spanish. Therefore I highly recommend enrolling in Spanish lessons before your trip.
There are many good language schools throughout Colombia that offer group or private Spanish classes. I used BaseLang in Laureles (Medellin) and found their curriculum and teachers excellent. With enrollment, you can take one-on-one lessons in-person at their school, in addition to unlimited online lessons with an instructor. Taking lessons accelerated my learning far faster than trying to pick up Spanish on my own.
Safety Risks in Colombia
Despite attempts to improve security over the past decade, Colombia can still be a dangerous place, especially in certain areas. Safety is something you need to take very seriously when dating Colombian women.
Do not go to questionable neighborhoods or accept invitations from strangers. Always meet in public places and let someone know where you are going. Use registered taxi services versus unofficial cabs. Avoid nightlife in high-crime districts. Do not wear expensive wearables like jewelry and watches.
Situational awareness and caution are required. While I cannot guarantee your safety, following sensible precautions can help reduce risks. But you should be prepared for the fact that dating in Colombia has an element of danger not present in many other countries.

How I Got Scammed in Medellin, Colombia
I unfortunately fell victim to a common dating scam when I first arrived in Colombia. On the dating app Bumble, I matched with a beautiful Colombian woman named Maria. We hit it off right away and began chatting every day. We also did several video calls so I could verify her identity.
After a week of messaging, Maria asked if I could send her $50 via Western Union. She claimed she needed the money for transportation to come visit me in Medellin. Wanting to meet her in person, I went ahead and sent the $50. However, right after receiving the money, Maria blocked me on Bumble and disappeared. It was clearly a scam just to get quick cash from me, and she moved on to her next victim.
Other Common Scams in Colombia
Here are some other common scams to watch out for as a foreigner dating in Colombia:
- The “emergency scam” – A woman you just met claims she has an emergency and needs money immediately. Once you send money, she disappears.
- Extortion scams – A woman threatens to tell police you assaulted her or broke a law, unless you pay a bribe.
- Fake dating profiles – Many dating sites are loaded with fake profiles trying to extort money from foreign men. Video chat before meeting anyone.
- Robbery setups – A woman agrees to meet you but takes you somewhere with accomplices who then rob you. Meet in safe public places.
- Drugging – Women slip drugs into your drink so accomplices can rob you after you pass out. Never leave your drink unattended. The drug they use is called Scopolamine, or “Devil’s Breath”, and is frequently used to drug foreigners in Colombia.
The potential for scams is one reason I don’t recommend using Tinder or Bumble in Colombia. Stick to legitimate international dating sites like ColombianCupid where scammers are easier to spot. And never send money to someone you haven’t met in person! My lesson only cost me $50, but many men lose thousands in dating and marriage scams in Colombia.
Finding a Serious Relationship
Finding a serious relationship with a Colombian woman takes time, effort, and commitment. It’s not something you can accomplish in a short vacation to the country. You need to invest in getting to know your potential partner on a deeper level, building trust and understanding. And you need to invest in getting to know Colombian culture.
Rushing into a relationship without properly vetting your partner can lead to heartbreak or being taken advantage of. Take things slowly and let a meaningful connection develop organically. Avoid professing serious intentions too quickly, as this can scare away genuine women. Demonstrate you want to learn about her, her family, her culture, and values.
Prioritize face-to-face interactions over digital ones. Spend quality time together in person, not just messaging online. Participate in activities you both enjoy and have thoughtful conversations to gauge compatibility. As your bond strengthens, broach more serious topics like future plans and expectations.

My Experience Dating in Colombia
I spent 5 months dating in Colombia in 2023. For the first month, I played the field and used various dating apps to meet women including ColombianCupid, InternationalCupid, Tinder, and Bumble.
