Age-gap relationships, where one partner is significantly older than the other, have become increasingly popular and accepted around the world. Through my international travel I’ve noticed some countries where an older man dating a younger woman is common and culturally acceptable. Other countries like Vietnam, for example, generally frown upon age-gap relationships with foreigners, or at least in public.
There are a variety of reasons why women in particular may seek out relationships with older men. Financial security is a major factor, as older men are perceived to be more established in their careers, have greater financial security, or may have stability through retirement plans. There’s also an attraction to the maturity, confidence, and wisdom that often comes with age and experience.
We see many celebrity examples of large age-gap couples, like actor Robert De Niro’s girlfriend Tiffany Chen, who is 35 years younger. Likewise, acting legend Al Pacino welcomed a son with his girlfriend Noor Alfallah who is 54 years younger than him.
There’s no doubt that an age difference can present challenges in relationships. But many women feel that the benefits outweigh the downsides when paired with a loving, respectful, and compatible older partner. And in various countries around the world, these types of age-gap relationships are seen as normal and fully accepted. Essentially, older men are coveted!

#10 – Colombia
My good friend Doyle, who is in his early 80s, married a beautiful Colombian woman in her early 30s several years ago. They met in Medellin where Doyle decided to move after falling in love with the city. Doyle is a big inspiration to me, not only for his youthfulness at an old age but he still works as a digital nomad. Wow!
I’ve spent a lot of time in Colombia, specifically Medellin, and age-gap relationships are quite common. The relationships, generally don’t need to be hidden in private, depending on how comfortable the woman is with the situation. You will regularly see women that are 20 or 30 years younger than their boyfriend walking in the shopping malls.
In return, the foreigner typically provides his younger partner with financial security, stability, and covers basic expenses like rent, food, and utilities. In the case of Doyle, their age gap marriage offers mutual benefits for them both. While it may seem that their large age difference is only about money (I’ve had dinner with them), their relationship seems to be based on a genuine connection and fondness for one another.

#9 – Brazil
Brazil is known for its beautiful people and fun, party culture. It’s not uncommon to see large age gaps between couples in Brazil. Brazilian women tend to value confidence, status, and financial security in their partners, which older foreign men can provide. The stereotype of the “Latin lover” also makes older men attractive to younger Brazilian women.
The culture in Brazil is more accepting of age-gap relationships compared to other western countries. Family and friends won’t blink an eye at a couple with a large age difference. The tropical climate and beautiful beaches provide a romantic backdrop for May-December relationships in Brazil. Resort towns like Rio de Janeiro and Florianopolis are popular destinations for older foreign men to meet younger Brazilian women.
While Brazil has a reputation as a sexualized culture, most Brazilian women in age-gap relationships take them seriously. They see the relationship as a chance for a better life and future.
#8 – United Arab Emirates (Dubai)
It’s no secret that some of the most beautiful women in the world have migrated to Dubai. The city has become a melting pot of cultures and nationalities, with expats making up over 80% of the population. Among them are stunning models, actresses, and influencers from Europe, Asia, Africa and beyond, who have been drawn in by Dubai’s glamorous lifestyle and career opportunities.
For single male expats and tourists, Dubai provides easy access to some of the world’s most gorgeous women. It’s commonplace to see older, wealthy men proudly strolling with their young, model-esque girlfriends.
It’s fair to say, to find age-gap relationships with beautiful women in Dubai, it really helps to be rich. That’s why I would recommend for most expats to choose countries where the cost of living is much lower than Dubai, where your money will go much further. But in Dubai, age is just a number and dating younger women is just part of the culture.

#7 – Ukraine
Due to the ongoing conflict and war in Ukraine, it is not feasible for most people to travel there at the moment. However, prior to the war, Ukraine was known as a popular destination for men looking to meet and date younger Ukrainian women.
With millions of Ukrainians fleeing the war and migrating to nearby countries, there are now opportunities to meet Ukrainian women in surrounding nations. Countries like Poland, Hungary, and Romania have seen a major influx of Ukrainian refugees and migrants over the past year.
One personal example with this is within five minutes of stepping out of the Krakow Airport in Poland, I met two beautiful younger Ukrainian women who were raising money for war victims. I’ve still been kicking myself for not getting their phone number.

#6 – Cambodia
I visited Cambodia for three weeks and witnessed many expats dating local younger women during my travels in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap (Angkor Wat). It seems to be culturally acceptable there for foreign men to have relationships with much younger Cambodian women. Obviously, only date women 18 years old and above.
Many expats I met were retirees who decided to move to Cambodia for the low cost of living. They often become a regular fixture at local bars and nightlife spots where they meet young women. From what I observed, these relationships appeared to be long-term and happy on both sides.
The Cambodian women seemed happy dating older men who could provide them with financial stability. Meanwhile, the expats enjoyed dating beautiful women decades younger than themselves, which proved difficult back home.
Of course, it’s essential that proper precautions and vetting take place to ensure ethical relationships for all parties involved. But overall, Cambodia appears to embrace age-gap relationships between foreigners and young local women.

#5 – Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic is known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant culture, and friendly people. It’s also a popular destination for older foreign men seeking relationships with younger Dominican women. One of my favorite dating websites, LatinAmericanCupid.com, has an abundance of beautiful women in the DR looking for foreign boyfriends.
For many Dominican women, relationships with much older foreign men are pragmatic and socially accepted. Economic opportunities are limited in the Dominican Republic, so relationships with financially stable foreigners are appealing. Some women see it as a way to immigrate and provide for their families.
#4 – Mexico
Mexico is known for its warm culture and beautiful landscapes. In many parts of the country, especially in rural areas, it’s common and culturally acceptable for older men to look for younger trophy wives. And vice versa. Wealth inequality in Mexico means poorer, rural women may look to marry wealthier, often older men as a means of attaining financial security.
Several reasons for this include: traditional gender roles, economic factors, and religious influences of the Catholic church. In Mexico, social status is valued, and often times an older, successful husband is highly coveted.
While age gaps in relationships may raise eyebrows in some parts of the world, in Mexico it’s often simply an accepted part of the culture, particularly in rural areas and villages. Of course, as with any relationship, mutual respect and consent between both parties is paramount.
#3 – Thailand
Thailand is well-known for having a high number of relationships with large age gaps, especially between older foreign men and younger Thai women. However, it’s important to be ethical and make distinctions between different types of Thai women.
Many foreign men come to Thailand and mistakenly assume all young Thai women working in bars and entertainment venues are open to dating them. In reality, bar girls represent a small subset of Thai women and many are only interested in customers for financial reasons. In my experiences in Thailand, I’ve found that many normal Thai women prefer to date Thai men around their own age instead of dating on older foreign expat. Normal Thai women try hard to create a clear distinction between themselves and women working in the bar scene.
With that being said there are plenty of good Thai women that are not involved in the sex tourism industry and are interested in age-gap relationships with foreign men. You’ll just have to do some filtering and looking outside of the bar scene. Legal age of consent laws must always be followed.

#2 – Kenya
Kenya and other Eastern African countries are a popular destination for older western men looking to date younger African women. The country has a relatively relaxed view on age-gap relationships, especially between foreigners and locals. In fact, an older expat boyfriend is often considered a trophy and treated like a king. My buddy Dave told me that in Mombasa, Kenya the women were playfully fighting over him!
Nairobi and Mombasa are the main cities where older western bachelors go to meet Kenyan women. There are many nightclubs, bars, hotels and beaches where flirtation and courtship happen between mature western men and local younger women.
It’s quite common to see retired western men in their 60s and 70s dating Kenyan women in their 20s and 30s. For the women, they get to date more worldly and financially stable men. For the men, they get to date beautiful women decades younger.
#1 – Philippines
The Philippines is widely regarded as the number one location for older western men to date and marry much younger local women. The age gap between couples seen walking around together is often quite striking. I’ve spent over a year in the country. On my first visit I was culture shocked when I would see retired caucasian men walking around in public with their 21-year old gorgeous girlfriends.

Filipino society has grown to accept and even encourage them in recent decades and there are many reasons, including:
- In the Philippines, it is “all about family”. As long as a Filipino woman’s family approves of her dating an older man, there will be no problem. And many Filipina women view dating an older foreigner as an opportunity to improve the lifestyle of not only her but her entire family. Be careful though, that is a big consideration that you should be aware of when dating a younger Filipina. Choose wisely.
- The Philippines has strong historical connections and cultural influences to Spain and the United States. Interracial relationships are seen as prestigious and coveted. Sometimes I felt like a rockstar walking around in the Filipino provinces.
- Traditional gender roles are still prevalent in the Philippines. Younger women often prefer the maturity and stability of an older man compared to local males their age.
- The best part of the Philippines: English fluency is high. This allows for seamless communication between Filipinas and westerners compared to other Asian countries like Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia.
***An important reminder: Legal age of consent laws must always be followed. In most countries the age is 18 but do your own research and never break the law while dating in foreign countries.
