The 7 Best Dating Apps in Vietnam For Foreigners | Ranked

Beautiful traditional Vietnamese woman with a beautiful background of Vietnamese countryside, with text saying "Dating Apps In Vietnam."

After spending three months in Vietnam on a 90-day tourist visa, I think every foreign man should put Vietnam high on their bucket list. It isn’t the easiest place to find a girlfriend, but Vietnamese women are near the top of the list when it comes to beauty both inside-and-out. And due to Vietnamese women’s reservedness, the best place to meet them is through online dating platforms.

The best dating apps to meet Vietnamese women are Bumble, Badoo, Tinder, and VietnamCupid. Other apps like Tagged, Paktor, and Skout are gaining popularity in Vietnam. Also, don’t neglect Facebook and Instagram for meeting beautiful Vietnamese women, as they have the most users but it requires more of a numbers game strategy.

Vietnam as a country, pleasantly surprised me on a variety of factors: how gorgeous the country was, the quality of food, how nice the people are, and for the abundance of outdoor adventure activities. But when it comes to dating, please be prepared, Vietnam has bigger dating challenges and takes more advanced dating skills than other similar countries in Southeast Asia. Partly because of the strong language barrier and the conservative nature of Vietnamese women.

Also, I anecdotally noticed that Vietnamese women are less desperate to meet foreign boyfriends when compared to the Philippines, Thailand, and Cambodia. Therefore, targeting dating apps and websites that are specifically designed to match Westerners with Vietnamese women is a great place to start. In this article I will rank the top dating apps in Vietnam, based off my experience, talking to Vietnamese women, and asking fellow expats that live in Vietnam.

#7 – Paktor – Southeast Asia’s Sweetheart

Originating from Singapore, Paktor has made significant inroads in Vietnam with a focus on promoting real profiles for serious relationships. Its intuitive swipe, match, and chat features are complemented by options for video calls, appealing to users looking for authentic connections. It’s quite unique that Paktor encourages users to get quickly into live video chats with other users in order to spark a connection.

#6 – Skout – Discovering Connections Near and Far

Skout broadens the horizon for meeting new people, connecting users based on location in either English or Vietnamese. Its interactive grid and chat features encourage exploration and engagement, with in-app purchases unlocking additional functionalities.

#5 – Tagged – A World of Possibilities

My buddy Wayne starting using Tagged on a Eastern African trip through Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania and has since become a loyal user. With a substantial Vietnamese user base, Tagged leverages location to facilitate connections, offering a straightforward platform for browsing profiles, chatting, and organizing meetups. I used my Tagged account and was surprised that, yes, there are quite a few beautiful Vietnamese women on the platform.

#4 Tinder – The Global Phenomenon with a Local Twist

Tinder’s swipe-based system needs no introduction, and its Vietnamese user base is robust and active. The app’s appeal in Vietnam is enhanced by the lower prevalence of ladyboys, a common concern in other Southeast Asian countries like Thailand and the Philippines. Upgrading enables the “Passport” feature for location adjustments, enabling you to begin swiping and matching with locals before even setting foot in Vietnam.

Tinder is often used as a hookup platform for short-term relationships. But realize that Vietnam does not have much of a hookup culture. Vietnamese women tend to be seeking to become “just friends” first before entertaining any type of romantic or sensual activities.

#3 – VietnamCupid – Connecting Hearts Across Cultures

I have been jokingly accused of being favorably biased for the Cupid Media Network sites (FilipinoCupid, ColombianCupid, InternationalCupid, etc.), because I have had a lot of success dating internationally with them. However, my endorsement of VietnamCupid is not quite as high as it is for the Philippines, Thailand, and Colombia.

I stayed the majority of my three months in Da Nang and Hoi An, Vietnam areas. And on VietnamCupid there was not a large user base in those particular cities. However, I noticed that there were a lot of women located in Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi areas.

Unlike Badoo, VietnamCupid hasn’t reached the same level of local popularity in Vietnam but it shines in its specificity. They have by far my favorite filtering features, allowing you to narrow down to exactly the type of woman you are looking for. The website is free to join and browse all the beautiful women, but you need to pay in order to message. Also, just like all the Cupid Media websites, VietnamCupid is particularly tailored for Vietnamese women that are looking for foreign boyfriends.

#2 – Badoo – Where Love is Just Around the Corner

Badoo stands out with its impressive growth trajectory in Vietnam, boasting millions of users. My personal recommendation comes from witnessing the success of my tennis buddy in finding his Vietnamese sweetheart on this very app. She was stunning! It is considered a free app, however they will encourage you to purchase upgrades by limiting features from you.

Badoo’s appeal lies in its ability to facilitate chatting, matching, and arranging meetups seamlessly, utilizing your location to connect you with nearby singles. Just look at the “nearby” section and it will show you single Vietnamese women that are located near you. This immediacy makes it an attractive option for those looking to meet someone without the lengthy wait.

#1 – Bumble – Empowering Women in Dating

I had several expat friends tell me that they prefer Bumble over any other dating platforms in Vietnam. They mainly stated that the women were quality, beautiful, and seeking long-term relationships. I joined Bumble and received quite a few matches with beautiful Vietnamese women as well. Bumble is free to use, but upgrading will allow you to change locations and browse women in different locations all around Vietnam and the entire world.

Gaining slow yet steady traction, Bumble brings a female-first approach to the dating scene in Vietnam. Women are required to take the initiative to start conversations. I’ve found that this significantly reduces the amount of flaking when compared to Tinder.

Using Facebook and Instagram For Dating In Vietnam

Whether it be in Vietnam or anywhere in the world, don’t neglect using Facebook and Instagram for dating purposes. Some people even say that Instagram has become the largest dating app in world.

Here are three ways that I use social media for dating purposes:

  1. Asking women for their Instagram instead of their phone number after approaching or meeting a Vietnamese woman that I am interested in. Most young women nowadays have Instagram or Facebook accounts. They generally feel safer sharing their social media accounts than they do their personal phone number.
  2. Using Instagram or Facebook to transition off of a dating website. This will help you eliminate catfish and obtain a view into a woman’s lifestyle to see if she is a good fit. For example, I don’t drink alcohol and don’t like to date party animals. If a woman has a ton of content of her out partying, I can see it on her social media.
  3. Browsing locations from the Instagram search. I like to use Instagram to browse popular places in the particular city that I am in and see who has tagged themselves in that place. You’ll be surprised of how many beautiful women that you can discover in this method. After that, you just need to follow them and send a nice message. Please understand that this is a cold call method and is a pure numbers game. The reality is that most will not respond but I have met some beautiful women using this method in the Philippines and Colombia.
